Boston Marathon Runners Raise Funds For The GBF
Tue, 2010-05-04 00:16 — AnonymousThe Boston Marathon is a historic event, the oldest marathon in the country and the most prestigious worldwide. People train their whole lives just to qualify to run the premier marathon, often never making it. The energy that is generated by the cheering crowds of people who live along the historic route is indescribable. There is no running event equal to the Boston Marathon.
The GBF would like to extend a tremendous amount of gratitude to our supporters that ran in the Boston Marathon, which took place on 19 April. They successfully raised over $12,000.00 on behalf of the Green Beret Foundation.
The Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) took eight soldiers to Boston to run the historic marathon. NEK sponsored three soldiers that would not have been able to run the event without NEK’s generous financial assistance. The 3rd Battalion soldiers also raised $1000.00 for the Green Beret Foundation. The Massachusetts State Police provided an amazing VIP program for all active duty military personnel that made the event even more special. A special thank you to Karen for coordinating the logistics of our 5th Group runners.
Members of the USASOC Fund Raising Team ran to support the GBF to include Captain Ivan Castro, Colonel Fred Dummar and Dan Hilliker. CPT Castro and COL Dummar, also known as "Team Castro" have been relentless in their marathon endeavors. "Team Castro" has completed 2 marathons within the last 3 weeks and are running another one within the next two weeks. Ivan, a Special Forces Officer, was blinded by a mortar blast while on a deployment in Iraq and continues to honorably and selflessly serve our nation at the Special Forces Recruiting Battalion.
Lisa Pucino-Haglof & Melissa Pucino raised funds in honor of their brother, SSG Mathew Pucino. Matt was Killed In Action 23 November 2009. God bless him for his ultimate sacrifice and to Lisa and Melissa for honoring him.
